The Library of Arts

The Library of the University of Arts is the largest and oldest library of art in Albania. It is a unique University library, and directly helps in the formation of young artists.

Its mission is to support the educational and artistic process, serving students and lecturers of the University of Arts, as well as researchers and artists from different art institutions and art schools everywhere in Albania.

Our vision for the Scientific Library of UART is to make it function as an art center in Albania.

The library was created in 1966, the same year when the High Institute of Art was created, now known as the University of Arts. Its initial fund was that of the Library of the State Conservatory of Tirana, Fine Arts School, and High School Actors "Alexander Moses" as well as donations from organizations and art worshipers.

Library of the University of Arts for the increasing of the collections and information technology infrastructure was mainly supported by the following donors:

In its funding can be found diversified materials such as books, score sheets, manuscripts, dissertations, diplomas, periodicals, reference material, audiovisual, electronic literature, etc.

The Library of the University of Arts fund contains about 45,000 volumes. Most of the fund is unique.

A scientific bibliographic processing of the entire collection is constantly made, conforming the international standards using the UK - US standart, Cataloguing AACR2 (UK-US Cataloguing standart), Decimal Classification System, UDC (Universal Decimal Classification), International Rules Bibliographic Description, ISBD (International Standard Bibliographic Description ).

The Collection materials can be obtained through the alphabetic and systematic file, bibliographies and bibliographic lists in electronic format that are sent to library users through email as well as through the online catalog.

An online catalog has been created through the application of systems based on "open source code", catalog which can be accessed anywhere via the official site of the University of Arts.

An Institutional Digital Archive has been created where special collections are stored in an electronic format. Respective digital collections are created according to each three faculties:

  • Faculty of Music: The collection of manuscripts / collection of tapes converted into digital ones/ World Music / Albanian Music/ theoretical theses of graduate and postgraduate students/ biographies of Music personalities / essay and diplomas etc.
  • Faculty of Drama Arts: old Dramas / biographies/ theoretical theses of graduate and postgraduate students/ biographies of personalities of scenic arts/ work of arts of the students of the UART
  • Faculty of Fine Arts: biographies / Exhibitions of professors and students artworks / theoretical works / student works for the degrees etc.
