Faculty of Music

The beginnings of the Faculty of Music date back to January 15, 1962, with the opening of the State Conservatory of Tirana. Four years later, on 04.05.1966, with the merger of three independent art schools, the “Aleksandër Moisiu” Drama School, the School of Visual Arts and the Conservatory, the Higher Institute of Arts was established.
Like the other two branches, the Music Department at the Higher Institute of Arts has since operated as an independent branch.

In 1989, all three branches of the Higher Institute of Arts were transformed into Faculties and as a result, the existing branch of music was transformed into the Faculty of Music, maintaining this quality even after 1991 when the Higher Institute of Arts was renamed the Academy of Arts, and then in 2011 the University of Arts.

The structure of the Faculty of Music is organized in three Departments:

Department of Interpretation (DI), with study programs Piano, Strings, Classical Accordion, Guitar, Wind Instruments.
Department of Composition - Musicology - Conducting - Pedagogy (KMDP), with study programs Composition, Musicology, Conducting and Music Pedagogy.
Canto Department with the Canto study program.

Since 2008, the Faculty of Music has adapted the new university structure (according to the Bologna Card) with two teaching cycles, the First Cycle with a duration of 3 academic years, at the end of which the student, according to the program attended, gains a Bachelor degree and the Second Cycle with a duration of 2 academic years at the end of which the student, according to the program attended, gains a degree as "Master of Arts", "Scientific Master" or "Professional Master".

The Faculty of Music develops an active artistic life with the wide participation of students and professors. The stage of the University of Arts (Concert Hall) presently has gained a significant weight of representation of Albanian musical achievements.

In addition to the students and professors of this Faculty, there are many instrumentists, singers and various music formations that contribute in the artistic and academic life at the Faculty of Music and at the University of Arts.

Concerts are held at the Concert's Hall and other halls of the University of Arts throughout the entire academic year. This includes concerts with works by students part of the the composition class.

In addition to the various Chamber Music formations, the Faculty of Music has a Symphony Orchestra, a Wind Orchestra, a "Big Band", two String Orchestras and a Wind Ensemble. All these formations, in addition to the compulsory curriculum, hold concerts as according to a defined program. The same is also performed by the Opera and Choir classes.

The teaching facilities of the Faculty of Music are concentrated in the main building of the University of Arts and in the building located at the back of the University. This building is organized into classrooms, individual studios and laboratories. The "Tonin Harapi" lecture hall is located in the same building.

In addition to the Concert's Hall, in the central building of the Faculty of Music there are also the halls "Çesk Zadeja" and "Ibrahim Madhi", which serve not only as working environments for orchestras and chamber music ensembles, but also for holding concerts of chamber music, as well as for the organization of seminars, workshops, masterclasses, etc.

Another important working environment for the Faculty of Music is the University Library, with its "Media Library" hall.
