Faculty of Dramatic Arts

Faculty of Dramatic Arts is the successor (sequential) of the High School Actors "Aleksander MOISIU", established in 1959 at the National Theatre. With the establishment of the High Institute of Arts, in 1966 was included as a Department of Drama with the specific aim of preparing future actors. In 1980, the creation of the Directing and Choreography Department was an imperative of that time due to the intensification of theatrical life in Albania where not only actors but also directors and choreographers were needed
With the increasing number of students and teaching body and also with the Albanian artistic life affirmation of the artists prepared by this school, in 1990, led to the creation of an independent faculty of Dramatic Arts. The Faculty of Dramatic Arts issues degrees in the following specialities: Acting, Directing theater, scenography & costumography, choreography, Directing Film & TV.


Faculty of Dramatic Arts currently has two departments:

  • Department of Acting, with Voice section, Corporal Education Section and Film & TV Section.
  • Department of Scenography & Costumography / Directing / Art Theory, with Directing Section, Scenography Section, Costumes-Choreography Section and Theory of Art Section.

Studies in all specialties of this faculty till the academic year 2008-2009 have lasted 4 years. Teaching Methods in Acting and Directing are based on Stanislavsky system. In the recent years students have been engaged in creative works, a methodology that is based on contemporary concepts of theatrical art.

Starting from the academic year 2008-2009, as other faculties of the Academy of Arts, students of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts have started programs of study based on the new structure which is divided into two cycles of study, followed by a Master , Ph.D., and beyond.

The new generation of actors, directors, choreographers, set designers and film directors prepared in this faculty, constitute a generation force in theater, film and television. Thus the contribution of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in the Albanian cultural life is evident and well known.

Faculty of Dramatic Arts appreciates the role of international relations with other artistic schools in the Balkans, Europe and beyond. Exchange of experiences, participation in activities and international workshops, contributed to the introduction and use of new methods of teaching in this faculty.
